DESIGNERS SAMPLE THE FULL FLAVOURS OF PORTUGAL | Part I

To say we are passionate about Portuguese furniture is an understatement. Ours is not simply a range of products we’d like you to buy. We know that each and every piece in our collection is made to last by artisans who employ traditional methods of craftsmanship, lovingly passed on from generation to generation.

Our select group of manufacturers provide a hallmark of quality and professionalism that we know we can trust and confidently recommend to clients who demand the very best in interior design standards. However, the extra attention to detail that results from our manufacturer’s strong sense of tradition and unprecedented pride is a Unique Selling Point that is difficult to communicate in a glossy brochure or through pixels on a screen.

That’s why we decided to take some of our clients to our homeland; to meet our manufacturing teams and experience first hand the unique flavour of our furniture ranges… and okay, to sample the delicious flavours of our food along the way!

This was the first “Meet the Maker” trip we have undertaken at Open Plan Living and we’re sure it won’t be the last. Our clients loved learning about the production process, discovering more about the local materials and seeing behind the scenes at the heart of the manufacturing operations.

Sometimes it’s important to touch and feel the quality of materials used in our furniture and at our Paularte Showroom, we gave clients the opportunity to do just that. They got up close and personal with some of our bestselling pieces and the iconic Bracara range, including desk and sideboard, proved to be even more seductive in real life.

Our visit to the upholstery workshop was equally insightful for our visitors who we able to form a complete picture of how specific pieces are created from design through to completion. The spacious and comfortable Golf Sofa set a few hearts a flutter, (insert image) but there was no time to spare lounging around, as of course we needed to fit in a spot of sightseeing whilst visiting the beautiful region of northern Portugal.

We hit the hotspots of vibrant Porto and also explored the ancient city of Braga, home to one of the most iconic churches in Portugal, The Sanctuary of Bom Jesus. We also took a ride on the oldest water run Cable Car, dated from 1882!

And if the culture wasn’t enough to leave our guests hungry for more Portuguese delights, the cuisine certainly was. Gastronomic delicacies such as octopus, monkfish rice, cod, clams and the famous “bolinhos de bacalhau” (cod fish cakes) were served with the same creative flair and local pride that we had witnessed in our manufacturing visits, proving that in Portugal, passion is at the heart of everything we do.

We would love to share our passion for Portuguese design with you too. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with any queries (and the Part 2 blog post is coming up soon so stay tuned!)
