Tips For Using Art At Home

A pleasing interior is a beautiful thing, and a home that reflects your personality? Priceless. Starting with a blank canvas can be daunting, especially if decorating a space doesn’t come naturally. But baby steps are of the utmost importance and taking your time to really understand your personal style can make all the difference. Rush your new interior, and you may live to regret the decisions made in a hurry. When making the journey of discovery in terms of your own loves in your interior, art is a fantastic place to start. We share our tips for using art at home

Don’t be afraid to make a statement

When using art, choose pieces that really speak to you, or that you feel reflect a piece of your inner self. If there’s something you’re particularly passionate about, share it. Your walls are a blank canvas, waiting to be adorned with your every desire – use them. Whether photography or painting, there is a piece of art in the world that will bring your room to life, and stir emotion when viewed in your setting. Don’t be afraid of being a little different, art is very personal to each person that views it, so you’ll never please everyone whatever you decide.

Only hang pieces you love

There is a strong temptation in home décor to hang art and photography that has a broad appeal. Many home stores will stock imagery that is pleasing to the eye, without being highly emotive, or particularly original. While this works in a show setting, and can finish a space well if art isn’t a focus, it doesn’t always convey personality. Don’t hang an image that doesn’t speak to you. You will only love your home if you love the pieces that make it up – that includes what hangs on your walls.

Choose complementary furnishings

Whether or not art is the starting point, ensure your furnishings are complementary. Even if just matching the colour palette, a common theme will help pull the room together, resulting in an environment you can’t get enough of.
