Portuguese tiles to inspire upholstery
Portuguese tiles not only inspire those who wish to decorate their walls, but also those who want to spice their interior upholstery. Renowned interior designer Lazaro Rosa Violan has proven exactly that with his project Chez Coco in Barcelona. The beauty of blue and white Portuguese tiles was brought by the designer to his chairs’ fabric, creating a very interesting environment that matches with the tiled floor and hand painted floral wall art. A great inspiration for a sophisticated home decor!
Portuguese tiles as an innovative product
Have you heard about Portuguese cork tiles? If not, now it’s time to check out this recent invention. Combining tiles and cork, the Portuguese company Rui Matias explored the best of these two iconic materials, creating what they call the Cortilejo (mixing the words cortiça = cork and azulejo = tile). In 2015 the cortilejo was the highlight of the May Design Series in London and was also shortlisted for the Design Excellence Awards.
Portuguese tiles as a decor detail in the garden
Gardens have the potential remind us those magical holidays we spent in the Mediterranean. British landscape designers Cityscapers, created a very special set of tiles that can certainly add that warmth to any outdoors space. The Portuguese tiles were applied as a very rich detail, combining with the green vegetation and the wooden floors and walls.
Portuguese tiles as an inspiration for other home decor products
Portuguese tiles don’t necessarily need to be applied to your home decor in a traditional way. Our featured Two.six Tiles rug is proof of that. The inspiration comes from Portuguese tiles but the design combines modern patterns and fresh colours, reinventing the traditional tile.
