Bespoke furniture, a work of art!
One of the most rewarding aspects of our work at Open Plan Living is helping clients turn their design concepts into reality. This is made possible through our Bespoke Furniture Services.
Often we are asked if a product can be tweaked to incorporate a particular wood, finish or fabric. Most of the times the size needs to be modified so that it fits perfectly within a client’s intricate design scheme.
Our close relationship with our furniture artisans in Portugal means that we are able to fulfill some very specific design briefs. It never ceases to amaze us how the tiniest attention to detail can make such a big difference to the sophistication of a scheme.
Why go bespoke?
With so much choice in the interiors world, is it really necessary to go to the extra trouble and sometimes added expense of customised furniture? It’s certainly possible to curate stunning interior schemes using mass produced furniture, but more often than not, it is the element of individuality that sets a scheme apart. This may be achieved through art, or soft furnishings but customised furniture has the power to add an extra depth of quality and class.
Bespoke furniture, customised to meet individual design specifications shows an uncompromising attention to detail! It results in a high end finish that is actually surprisingly achievable for both commercial and residential projects.
Do not be fooled into thinking bespoke furniture is the domain of the professional interior trade or just for design divas demanding the absolute best! Far from it. Many of our bespoke clients find that spending a little extra time and money to get their furniture exactly right means they save money in the long run. They create furniture that becomes so intricately in sync with the room scheme that it surpasses any impulse purchases or items that have not been as carefully thought through.
Indeed, bespoke items often become future heirlooms for families to pass on through generations. They carry sentimental value, having been expertly crafted with a ‘just for you’ ethos. These items are lovingly produced with noble materials, almost as though each piece comes with its own unique story.
At Open Plan Living it is such a pleasure to be part of that journey and see a design brief through from concept stage to its installation. We know that each bespoke piece we have worked on carries an extra special personal quality that simply cannot be reproduced in a standard manufacturing process. And the WOW factor they create makes all the extra effort worthwhile.
Below are five recent examples of our bespoke furniture service. If you would like to discuss any design ideas, please do not hesitate to get in touch. We would love to help you make these ideas a reality too!
Bokan feature sofas
These sofas were designed and commissioned by our client Mystery for a hospitality project in London, the bar area at the Bokan restaurant in Canary Wharf. All the materials were specified by our client so that the sofas fitted perfectly with the hotel’s cool industrial aesthetic. The Open Plan team saw the production process through from material sourcing to furniture assembly. The client was delighted with the quality and craftsmanship of the upholstery pieces, which featured beautiful contrast leather piping and stunning relaxed leather and linen scatter cushions.
Cork Stools
Portugal is famous for its cork production so we were especially delighted to work on this exciting commission for a commercial client.
The stools we produced were not only quirky and contemporary for a modern pared back aesthetic, but also fitted perfectly with the client’s practical and moral design brief. Cork is 100% natural, evironmentally friendly, water resistant and hypoallergenic.
Brass and Arabescato Marble Coffee Table
This coffee table represents luxury at its best. Designed and commissioned by our very talented client at Kitesgrove, many different were considered materials before she selected this particular Arabescato marble slab for its mellow hues and beautiful markings. Teamed with an antique brass structured base, this piece has all the hallmarks of a future heirloom.
Oak Cluster Veneer Side Tables
One more piece designed and commissioned by Kitesgrove. We worked with specialist veneer suppliers in the UK to source the most exquisite oak cluster veneer to meet our clients’ vision for these stunning side tables. The materials were then shipped to our manufacturers in Portugal who produced the cabinetry work to their particular high standards. The two drawer units sit on antique bronze plinths for a fashionable result which speaks volumes of the client’s undeniable style and class.
Dressing Table
This simple and contemporary dressing table unit looks like a modern design classic and demonstrates perfectly the design sophistication of bespoke furniture. The table was lacquered in Farrow and Ball paint specified by the client and sits upon a brass structure in a very unique dark bronze finish.
