Styling Your Statement Piece

Furniture is a beautiful thing. A physical representation of innermost desires, your chosen furnishings are a reflection of your taste, your style, your heritage – a display of personal choices, slotting into place to make your house a home. And when it comes to deciding what will take center stage? The majestic statement piece remains unchallenged.

When styling a statement piece of furniture, Kassavello follow three simple rules:

Allow your statement piece to breathe

By this we mean, do not overwhelm your one key statement with lots of smaller ones. While it may be true that some spaces have the potential to house multiple statement items, the idea of a statement piece, traditionally, is to draw the eye to a single point within the room. So let your chosen statement do the talking, while the rest of your furnishings merely whisper.

Choose a complementary colour scheme

This doesn’t mean match the colours. If you’ve chosen a velvet sofa in a rich blue, for example, you don’t necessarily need to paint your walls blue, purchase a blue lamp, and commit to a cold weather colour palette with little room for manoeuvre. Instead, choose tones that complement the piece, without being the same. Experiment with shades that bring out the best in your chosen statement piece, and that frame it as the focal point of the room.

Consider the rest of your room

It can be tempting to buy something you truly love, without doing your research. Before committing to a new purchase, take the rest of your room into account. Will your statement piece offset the rest of the interior, or will it clash? If it clashes, do you intend to redecorate around your new item, or is this not currently an option? Does the colour work with your scheme? Does the fabric suit your lifestyle? And, perhaps most importantly, will it fit into the space you have allocated it? Consider all of this before purchase. It will save you heartache down the line.
